Thank you to our partner Knik Tribal Council and our sponsors Mat-Su Health Foundation and Southcentral Foundation for supporting the 6th Annual Tribal Gathering & Health Fair in which more than 600 participants and 50 health and wellness and craft vendors gathered on June 21st at the Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fair grounds.
Those in attendance were treated to traditional foods (salmon, halibut, and moose stew) as well as fry bread, burgers, and hot dogs. Mount Susitna/Sleeping Lady performed drumming and dancing as well as Samuel Johns performed traditional Ahtna singing and drumming and more modern rap as well. There was a rock climbing wall, NYO exhibition, face painting, bubble and hula hoop play areas and many activities for the children. Several large door prizes were given out including a bicycle and helmet, electric foods smoker, a children’s swimming pool, and a full camping package for two. New this year was a beaded arts contest. We would like to congratulate all the winners on their beautiful submissions.
See you next year!
