Ecosystem Based Plan

Project Need

Moose Is The Worlds Largest Memeber Of The Deer Family

The need for this project is twofold:

(1)  Our community is facing development pressure and needs an effective way to identify and sustain ecological and culture resources.  Large scale and industrial development with little or no public notice threatens our culture by overtaking the land to which we are so deeply connected.  Though we express our concerns through comment letters and government-to-government consultation meetings, it is challenging to achieve results without adequate, scientifically sound information.  The EBP will provide scientific information, including maps, to help identify what types of development are sustainable to each specific area.

(2)  There is a lack of employment opportunities in the area.  Ecosystem based planning is a culturally sensitive model that has the tribal belief that the land and its people are one, and strives to move the community toward self-sufficiency with its ecological systems intact.
