Environmental Vision

Our Vision

Chickaloon Village Environmental Protection Program serves the vision of a healthy and prosperous community that lives in harmony with the natural environment.

Our Purpose

Chickaloon Village Environmental Protection Program combines traditional and modern knowledge in a way that promotes and protects the health of all beings and the earth upon which all life depends, and we apply this knowledge in achieving our vision.

Our Beliefs

We trust that people want to learn how to live together in ways that nourish and sustain humans and all life.

We believe that the most basic connection of people to their environment is the water that they drink and the food that they eat.

We believe that all people harbor an innate desire to protect each other and the earth upon which we all depend.  We strive to bring this desire forward in the younger generations of our community and in the majority culture.

We believe that knowledge brings choice and strive to educate tribal citizens and the larger community about the environmental issues we face.  We also strive to maintain educated personnel within the tribal government who can advocate for the tribe on environmental issues.

We believe that it is possible to achieve environmentally sustainable economic development and strive to make this the foundation of ongoing community development plans.

We believe in the connection of all beings on earth and strive to work with other governmental agencies both inside and outside the tribe to ensure that environmental concerns are addressed in all activities.

Our Values

We rely on the goodness that lies within each human being.

We depend on the diversity of life.

We trust in the capacity of the living world to create order
